This cabin is located in Briary Branch hollow, near Sextons Creek, Kentucky.
James Alfred Marcum, lived in this cabin during the late 1940s and early 1950s, with his daughter Mary and her husband, John Henry Smith. He was born on April 28, 1878 and died on September 29, 1956, at 78 years old. As far as I know, he died at this location. Also, from what I've been able to find out, this is the only place where Grandpa Marcum lived, that's still standing.
Since that time the old cabin has had the present shed built around it and has been used as a tobacco barn. At present, it looks like the old cabin, which has become part of the barn or shed, has been used for a tobacco stripping room. The logs of the cabin are pretty much rotted where they've been exposed to the elements but where the barn shed has protected them, the logs are still in good solid condition. However, it looks like someone might have taken a few of the shorter logs from the front of the cabin. This picture is of the East end of the place and was taken on October 20, 2002. Even though it doesn't show in the pictures, it was raining, lightly, when all of these pictures were taken... Please see links, below, for more pictures taken on the same day.
