Earl Hicks, age 82, of Union, KY was born November 5, 1920 in Jackson County and departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2002, at the Northern Kentucky Care and Rehab in Highland Heights, KY. He was the son of the late Jesse Cass Hicks and Minnie Lovins Hicks.
Earl was united in marriage on February 10, 1943, to Sophia Lee King Hicks, who still survives of Union, KY. He is also survived by a son, Kenneth Hicks of Sparta, KY, by 3 daughters, Phyllis Cuzick, of Union; Vada Haley of Knoxville, TN and Glinda Fugate of Erlanger, KY; by a brother and a sister, Carlo Hicks of Demossville, KY and Lucy York of Tyner, KY. Earl was blessed with ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, Earl was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy hicks and by the following brothers and sisters: Letcher Hicks, William Hicks, Mary Sawyer, Lizzie (Bet) Frye and Bitha Reynolds.
He was a past master of the Boone-Union Masonic Lodge #304 and was free accepted Masons Member of Scottish Rights and was a WWII Veteran of the 8th Air Force Division.
Earl retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in 1977. After retirement Earl enjoyed helping his neighbors, gardening and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a devoted family man.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 6, 2003 at the Justice Funeral Home with Rev. Landon McDaniels officiating. Burial followed in the Neeley Cemetery in Tyner, under the direction of Justice Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were: Elmer Brewer, Hobert Hensley, J.R. Dixon, B.J. Mckinney, Bill Yount and Harvey Wilson.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Ken Hicks, Freddie Cuzick, Steve Haley, Stanley Fugate, Mike Moore, Fred Cuzick, Doug Haley and Stan Fugate.
Full Military services were conducted at the graveside by the following members of the Jack Welch Post #165. Earl Fee, Commander; Roy Scalf, Chaplain; B. J. McKinney, Edsel Welch, Darvel Barrett, John Robinson, David Gray, Harvey Wilson, Jesse D. Sweet, Bill Yount, Elmer Brewer, William Whicker and Hobert Hensley of Post #137.
