Mary Lou Hicks' Obituary

Mary Lou Hicks, of Tyner, Kentucky, was born June 2, 1925 in Clay County, KY and departed this life on April 2, 2003 at the Berea Hospital, being 77 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Ben H. King and Maggie Campbell King.

She had five sisters: Nannie, Georgia, Imogene, Mae and Sophia; four brothers, Alfred, Johnnie, Odell and Ellis.

In 1942, she married Edward Hicks and they had two children, Jerry Hicks of Liberty, IN and Janet Cole (Ray) of Danville, KY. Mary was blessed with five grandchildren, Eddy Cunagin (Lisa) of Conroe, Texas, Tony Cunagin (Madonna) of Berea, KY and Jeff and Chris Hicks of Saylersville, KY and Amy Hicks of Osgood, IN and by one great grandchild, Allison Ray Cunagin of Berea, KY also by one step grandchild, Stephanie Mays and one step great grandchild, Leticia Cox. Mary is also survived by a sister, Sophia Hicks of Union, KY and by a brother, Ellis King of West Chester, OH. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and acquaintances.

Mary was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, 2003 at the Lakes Funeral Home in McKee With Bro. Carroll deForest and Bro. Wiley Cole officiating. Burial followed in the Reynolds and Hicks Cemetery at Tyner. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were: James Earl King, Ronnie Hicks, Jeff King, Bobbie Jean King, Kenny Hensley and Bruce King.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Hobert Hicks, Leonard Banks, Tommie Evans, Raymond Metcalf, Roy Miller, Woodrow Masters and Brad Parker.
